Calycanthus floridus, or sweet shrub, is a small ornamental tree. They are usually cultivated for their aromatic bark, leaves, and sweet flowers. They were adapted for pollination by beetles. The flowers resemble a lobster trap, which fold back and let the beetle escape, once pollen is transferred. They usually grow 3-9 ft. tall and 6-12 ft. wide, flowering in April & May. If it grows in full sun, it will be shorter than if it was in part shade.
