Witch Hazel

Hamamelis virginiana, commonly witch hazel, is a deciduous shrub growing to 3-7 m. tall. It is cold hardy and blooms for nearly two months in fall and winter. It grows best in full sun/part shade. Planting is best in early spring or late fall and should be placed 10-12 ft. apart, since it becomes wide at full growth. The flowers have a lemon-zest fragrance and wispy petals. Pruning is not required but encourages blooming.
