Canna Lily (Bengal Tiger)

Canna x generalis ‘Bengal Tiger,’ is a flowering plant with large foliage. Some fun facts are that cannas are not true lilies, and they are used as a source of starch for both human and animal consumption. The name originated from Latin meaning cane or reed. Although these are tropic plants, they have been developed in temperate climates and easy to grow, as long as it’s in full sun. This plant is one of the earliest domesticated plants in the Americas, and the starchy root is edible. These brilliant orange flowers with variegated leaves can grow 6 ft. tall. It prefers mildly acidic soil and is a great water plant.
