Aquilegia canadensis, or columbine, is a hardy perennial plant found in meadows & woodlands. The name comes from Latin meaning “eagle,” referencing the “hook” (talon) shape within the blooms. These plants are used as a food source for caterpillars and a host plant to the Columbine Duskywing. They will grow to 15-20 in. tall and do best in part sun/part shade. The seeds and roots of the plant are highly poisonous.
