Hydrangea quercifolia, commonly oakleaf hydrangea, is a deciduous flowering shrub. It is native to the Southeastern US, where it prefers moist woods and stream banks. It can grow 8 ft. tall and 6-8 ft. wide. The name originated from the Greek word meaning water and vessel, which refers to the fruit. Songbirds enjoy the seeds for a snack. It does best in full sun and blooms mid spring to early summer.
