A website from UGA Cooperative Extension

This past weekend was the state livestock show, and Wilcox County had great representation there. There was also a local show and ag day before kids took off for Perry. The Wilcox County Livestock Show had 7 pigs and 6 heifers and 1 goat. Young Farmer Advisor Ira Tucker and FFA teacher Addie Tucker helped coordinate local ag producers and industry to have displays for younger kids to see. 5th and 6th graders were brought out to see the show and also see exhibits of local agriculture production. Here are some of the photos from our local show and state show:

Wilcox County Ag Day

Wilcox County has such diversity in agriculture, and we are blessed that these producers and ag industry would come join us for day featuring agriculture in our county. The kids were able to visit each group and learn exactly what and how these commodities are produced right here in Wilcox County. Here are some photos:

5th and 6th grade children were brought inside to see different agriculture commodities and industry representatives. Our very own Xavier Murphy from Natural Soil Resource Conservation talks about land stewardship and how the USDA works with farmers.
Brooks Gibbs talking to students about growing produce on the farm. Students got to have a sample of pecans and home grown peas.
Kasi Gibbs with Wilcox County Farm Bureau showed students all the commodities grown in Georgia.
Clay and Valerie Oliver teach students how oil is made and the many different kinds.
National 4-H Shooting Sports Ambassador Ms. Madison Terry and .22 Rifle Coach Mr. Dennis Shedd and talk about the different shooting sports here in Wilcox County.
4-H Certified Teen Leader and Health Rocks Ambassador Markeila Howard and Wilcox County 4-H Program Assistant Sara Sercer share with students 4-H programs.
Mrs. Beth McIntyre teaching students about healthy blueberries and how they are grown!
Here is Samuel Smith showing students how to care for a goat.
