A website from UGA Cooperative Extension

Here are some pictures from in and outside of Wilcox County this week. It has been warm for 2 weeks straight and lots of trees blooming….. a lot of trees, except pecans… However, pecan won’t be long here, I’ve heard that some hit budbreak in Thomas County this week…

February 28th – Southern Highbush blueberries budbreak.
February 28th – Flowers opening on Highbush blueberries. They are about to expand, and younger leaves are coming out. We hope that a late freeze won’t hurt our blueberries like last year.

Small Grain Weed Control looks Good

Here is a field of oats planted for seed that emerged with raddish. To my knowledge, our worst situation. We had to alter our normal weed control program to help us out here. Harmony Extra by itself does not do as good on raddish, but we had not choice but to split our Harmony and MCPA. We had our fingers crossed about how effective it would be, but we are very pleased today. This is what it look like now, and the photo below is 6 days after it was sprayed with Harmony – back in December.

February 28th – Horizon 270 Oats look very clean after sprouting along with raddish
December 2017 – Raddish turning yellow 6 days after Harmony Extra ONLY application. We had to do something quick before this got out of hand.
February 28th – Sunrise on rye cover
