Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States and number one cause among non-smokers. You may think this is just a problem in the north or for homes with basements. Not true! Radon kills about 21,000 people each year, more than drunk driving. One in fifteen homes in the U.S. has an elevated radon level. It could be your home.
The University of Georgia’s College of Family and Consumer Sciences Cooperative Extension, the Georgia Department of Community Affairs and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency encourage you to test your home. If you live in Georgia, go to www.ugaradon.org to order a kit for $10. If you live in another state you can get a radon test kit from your State Radon Contact or the National Radon Program Services at Kansas State University.
