Agriculture & Natural Resources Updates for Fannin & Gilmer Counties

Recognized as the “Apple Capital” of Georgia, growing apples is something we do well and take pride in doing in Gilmer and Fannin counties; however, both of these counties are home to a diverse framework of agricultural commodities. In addition to the production of other fruits, these two counties are also home multiple vineyards, pasture/forage operations, beef cattle, and poultry farms. Corn and other row crops also abound.

Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Fannin and Gilmer counties are teeming with diverse ecosystems and natural resources. In fact, approximately half of Fannin and Gilmer Counties are part of the Chattahoochee National Forest. Tucked away in the northwestern corner of Fannin County and rolling into neighboring Gilmer County is the Cohutta Wilderness Area, one of the largest wilderness areas in the eastern United States.

Our Agriculture & Natural Resources Agent serves the entirety of both counties, and offers various diagnostic services and educational programs.  Visit our “services” tab to learn more about what kinds of testing we offer and how we can help you diagnose any issues you may be having with plants, soil, water, and so much more.

Please feel free to sign up for our email list to get updates on our programming, agricultural issues in the county, or just to learn something new every week!
