    Pam Knox

    September 10, 2018

I sent out this email to my Extension colleagues in Georgia at noon today.  Still valid as of 9 pm tonight. My friend David Stooksbury, the former Georgia State Climatologist, pointed out today that the three week period ending today is among the top five driest for this time of year for parts of northern Georgia, most of South Carolina, and some stations in North Carolina. • Georgia Climate Project: What are the best ways to plan for and respond to extreme weather?

    Pam Knox

    September 9, 2018

With Hurricane Florence gaining strength in the Atlantic and headed towards the US East Coast, today’s GCP Roadmap question is a very compelling one. How are we currently planning for extreme weather and what could we do better? Our emergency managers across the state have already spent a lot of time thinking about this, but…

This week’s 7-day QPF map shows that a lot of rain is expected along the path of what should be Major Hurricane Florence if it hits the East Coast as is currently forecast. However, keep in mind that the forecasts this far out are subject to a considerable amount of uncertainty and the area of…

    Pam Knox

    September 8, 2018

The wildfires out west  have mostly disappeared from the national news, but there are still a lot of fires burning out there. Here is an interesting story from Growing Produce on the impacts that the smoke has been having on the farming of specialty crops in that region. You can read it at https://www.growingproduce.com/vegetables/years-wildfires-impacting-specialty-crops/.
