The 2019-2020 onion season is full swing. The early onion varieties are now being dug and shipping to locations all over the United States. The official pack date for Vidalia Onions was April 16th, 2020.  Not only are growers harvesting but county agents in the Vidalia growing region have began helping with harvest at the Vidalia Onion and Vegetable Research Center (VOVRC). The VOVRC has 45  varieties of onions; these include whites, red, and the yellow gran-x (these are the Vidalia varieties). With labor being an issue, agents are having to harvest and grade on their own as well as practice the social distancing guidelines that have been set forth by the CDC. Here are some photos of our progress.

Along with harvesting and grading agents have collect/collected valuable variety data including % seed stem, % doubles, flavor samples, and storage samples.
