On October 11th Keep Bartow Beautiful, Bartow Grant Writing Department, & Bartow County Solid Waste conducted a scrap tire amnesty week, which concluded on October 18th. An amnesty event is an effective way to remove and recycle scrap tires that blight our community and pose health hazards for residents. During this event, only Bartow County residents were able to recycle an unlimited amount of tires. Two semi-trailers were contracted by Liberty Tire to load the tires onto. These tires were transported and processed at a recycling facility. The main landfill (40 Allatoona Dam Road) was the only drop-off location for this event. A total of 3,344 tires were collected, which consisted of car tires, truck tires, and tractor tires. This was 1,640 more collected than last year, nearly doubling the amount collected! Bartow County Solid Waste employees collected and loaded all tires for the week. This event was made possible by a STAR grant awarded from the Environmental Protection Division for $9,300. Conducting this event hopefully encouraged community members to recycle their tires and not illegally dump them on the roadways and in waterways.
