Tattnall County youth interested in healthcare careers have an exciting opportunity this spring through a special collaboration with Mercer University School of Medicine (MUSM). The program, Setting Your Sights on Medical School, will give 9th–12th grade students a chance to visit the Mercer University School of Medicine Savannah Campus and learn what it takes to pursue a future in medicine—especially serving rural and underserved communities across Georgia. The program is open to youth enrolled at TCHS, Coastal, or Homeschool. Prior 4-H participation is not required.

Location: Mercer University School of Medicine – Savannah Campus
Date: Tuesday, April 7
Cost: Free (Lunch provided by Mercer University)

Throughout the day, participants will hear from physicians, faculty, and current medical students while exploring the path to medical school. Students will also participate in hands-on learning experiences designed to give them a glimpse into medical training. Activities will include learning about physiology through a blood typing activity, practicing patient interaction skills such as taking vital signs, and experiencing medical simulation training including airway management and other life-saving procedures.

Participants will also enjoy lunch with medical students and faculty, providing time to ask questions about college preparation, scholarships, and the medical school application process. The program will conclude with a roadmap to medical school and a student panel where current medical students will share their experiences and advice. This event is a fantastic opportunity for 4-H members who are curious about careers in medicine or healthcare and want to learn more about how they can make a difference in their communities.

Transportation will be provided by Tattnall County 4-H for Tattnall County youth accepted to the event. Interested high school 4-H members must apply by March 19. Application is online and can be found here:
