Tattnall County 4-H is proud to support Brave Beginnings Bags, a service project created by TCHS 4-H member Jeremiah Ray to help children facing sudden and difficult transitions. Jeremiah was inspired to start this project after hearing his mom, Christina, share her experience growing up in foster care. For years, she moved from home to home, carrying all of her belongings in a single black trash bag. She remembers how humiliating it felt to unpack her life that way at every stop.
Jeremiah wanted to change that story for other children.
Through Brave Beginnings Bags, 4-H youth are collecting rolling suitcases, duffle bags, and comfort items to create bags for children in Tattnall County who are suddenly displaced due to situations like foster placement, house fires, or other emergencies. Each bag is designed to provide comfort, dignity, and reassurance during an incredibly difficult moment.
We are currently collecting donations to help build these bags. Items Needed:
• Rolling suitcases or large duffle bags (new or gently used)
• New blankets or small throws
• New or like new stuffed animals or comfort items
• New pajamas (youth or adult sizes)
• New socks and underwear (all sizes)
• Toiletry kits (toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, soap)
• Activity items (coloring books, crayons, small books)
If you purchase an item locally, it can be dropped off at Tattnall County Public Library, Glennville Public Library or the Tattnall County Extension Office. If you are not local or cannot get to the store, you can shop the Amazon Wishlist that Jeremiah created. It will allow you to have items delivered directly to the Extension Office. The wish list can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/ShopforBBB We encourage all interested individuals to make their donations by March 31st!
If you have questions about the project, please reach out to: Jeremiah Ray, TCHS Senior 4-H Member OR James Poppell, 4-H AmeriCorps Member, james.poppell@uga.edu
Together we can make sure no child has to unpack their life from a trash bag as they begin a new chapter.
