This year, we want to challenge the youth in our community to give back during the holiday season. We have generated a list of different community service opportunities available in our county to help provide ideas.
Help show kindness to a local teacher at your school:
You will need to present these items to the local teacher of your choice during school hours or if you know them outside of school you can present them whenever convenient.
- Purchase needed supplies (Clorox wipes, Kleenex, GermX, Pencils, etc.) and donate to them for their classroom.
- Make a homemade gift or purchase a small gift to present to your teacher to thank them for the extra hard work they have had to put in teaching in the midst of a pandemic.
Help support our local Ronald McDonald House of Coastal Georgia:
These methods are currently more beneficial for the Ronald McDonald House than our typical Pop Tab drive. You can find information about all these things by visiting the Ronald McDonald House of Coastal Georgia website.
- Purchase an item on the Ronald McDonald House of Coastal Georgia Wish List
- Donate money to the Ronald McDonald House of Coastal Georgia
- Get together a group of friends and cook dinner for the Ronald McDonald House of Coastal Georgia
You can give back to nursing home residents by completing one or more of the following:
If you drop off these items at the Extension Office by December 18th, we will see to it that they are delivered safely to the local nursing homes.
- Color picture pages for nursing home cheer book.
- Write encouraging message for nursing home cheer book (do not address to anyone specific and sign with only your first name).
- Fill a Christmas stocking with needed essentials (tooth brush, tooth paste, deodorant, bath pouf, etc.) that can be donated to residents in need.
- Purchase playing cards, simple board games, coloring books, crossword puzzles or other small activity booklets that can be donated for the activity room for residents.
Provide support for an elderly or at-risk person in your neighborhood or your family:
Be sure to maintaining appropriate social distancing practices, wear masks, and other recommended practices to protect their safety.
- Pick up pine cones or rake leaves in their yard.
- Offer to make a grocery run for them to help pick up needed supplies.
- Offer to play with or walk pets that may be tired of staying cooped up inside.
Help support Christmas at Home, the local effort to provide a happy Christmas for youth in need:
These are just a few suggestions, as there are numerous activities related to CAH taking place all across our county. If donating items through the Extension Office, please be sure to have them to us no later than December 18th.
- Donate a new, unwrapped toy (for a younger child or a pre-teen\teen)
- Donate a pair of new children’s pajamas (Christmas prints are okay, but something they could wear all year long would also be nice)
- Volunteer through Kiwanis to assist with present sorting or delivery
As you complete these activities, take a photo to document that you have completed the activity and send the photo to tattnall4h@gmail.com. For every activity completed, you will be entered to win a holiday gift basket valued at over $50 filled with lots of fun prizes from Tattnall County 4-H Photos must be submitted no later than December 19th and winner will be announced on December 20th.
