Tattnall County 4-H would like to invite local youth who currently are active in showing horses to consider registering for the 2019 Georgia State 4-H Horse Show.
The State 4-H Horse Show is held each June at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter in Perry, GA. The show is open to youth in 4th-12th grade who wish to show their horse in one of five divisions: Stock Seat (Western), Ranch Horse (Western), Hunt Seat (English), Saddle Seat (English) and Contest Events (Running).
Youth who compete in the show are divided into categories by their grade in school:
- Cloverleaf (4th grade, 5th and 6th grade students with limited experience)
- Junior (5th and 6th grade students with demonstrated skills, 7th – 8th grade students)
- Senior (9th – 12th grade students)
Youth must complete a Georgia State 4-H Horse Show Intent to Show form for each horse they wish to compete show to the Tattnall County Extension Office no later than March 13, 2019. Horses entered in the show must be owned or leased by the 4-H’er by March 1, 2019. Intent to Show forms must include a photo of the horse, as well as accurate and complete information on each animal. Forms must also be signed by the parent, the 4-H’er and the Extension staff member before being uploaded into the online registration system. Entries not uploaded online by the March 15 state deadline will be ineligible to show. Intent to Show forms are available here: 2019 State Horse Show Intent to Show Form
In order to be eligible to show, youth must be enrolled as a member of the Tattnall County 4-H Club, own or lease a horse by March 1st of the current year, submit the Intent to Show form by March 13, and complete the Georgia 4-H Novice Horseman workbook by May 1, 2019. Youth can enroll in 4-H by visiting the Tattnall County Extension Office in Reidsville, GA and completing an enrollment form. Copies of the Georgia 4-H Novice Horseman workbook are available below. Tattnall County 4-H’ers in 9th-12th grade are also required to complete half or more of the Georgia 4-H Intermediate Horseman workbook available below.
Youth interested in the Horse project are also encouraged to sign up for the Tattnall County 4-H Horse Listserv by emailing their name, grade, and contact information to tattnall4h@gmail.com This will allow them to receive email updates about opportunities to get involved with 4-H horse-related events and activities.
