  • Since 1980s US chances of a white Christmas melt a bit

    Pam Knox

    December 19, 2021

Are you dreaming of a white Christmas? It’s pretty rare in the Southeast, but other parts of the country have also struggled to see one in recent years. Seth Borenstein of AP posted a story this week describing the lack of snow in other parts of the country. You might think it was related to…

  • Wet weekend as front moves through the region

    Pam Knox

    December 18, 2021

Most of the Southeast should experience wet conditions over the weekend as a front moves slowly south through the region. • A frenzy of well drilling by California farmers leaves taps running dry

    Pam Knox

    December 17, 2021

    Pam Knox

    December 16, 2021

The latest seasonal outlooks for January through March 2022 were released today by NOAA. They show a pattern very similar to what we expect from a weak to moderate La Nina. Since that is the ENSO phase we are in now, that is not too surprising. You can always see these maps at https://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/predictions/long_range/seasonal.php?lead=1 too.…
