  • Another dry week in store for all but Florida peninsula

    Pam Knox

    November 8, 2014

The 7-day QPF map shows another dry week in store for most of the Southeast.  The only exception will be the peninsula of Florida, which will see a lot of rain along the boundary of the unusually cold air that is expected to move into the area during the week.  I’ve discussed this outbreak of…

  • NOAA releases map of coldest day of year

    November 7, 2014

Since cold weather is on the way this coming week, it seems appropriate that NOAA published a map showing the average coldest day of the year.  For most of the coastal plains area of the Southeast, the coldest air comes around the first week of January.  Areas in the northern part of Georgia and Alabama…

    November 5, 2014

Two stories in news feeds this morning illustrate why climatologists look at weather patterns in other parts of the world to tell us what might be happening in the Southeast. The Capital Weather Gang posted a story about how the unprecedented warm water off the West Coast of the US may help “lock in” the…

    November 4, 2014

A new summary report issued by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change was issued earlier this week and has generated a lot of activity on public blogs and in the media.  You can read the original report here.  It’s a lot to wade through, though, so you might prefer to start with some articles on…
