I don’t know about you, but I am ready for spring. But while we’re waiting for the next storm to hit northern parts of the Southeast tomorrow, here are a few stories about winter storms that might be of interest to you.
Yahoo News has a story colorfully entitled “Why it’s so freaking cold” about the science of cold air outbreaks and why the East Coast has been so cold this winter. The link is here.
The National Climate Assessment‘s web site has a piece on changes in the number of mid-latitude and high-latitude winter storms over time. Mid-latitude storms cover the latitude range from 30-60 degrees, which includes most of the Southeast. The web article is here.
Because winter weather is often dreary with lots of clouds as well as less sunlight due to the tilt of the earth away from the sun, some people suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD. USA Today has an article which discusses the “frozen psyches” that often accompany winter.
