Please join the Brooks County Extension office this Saturday, November 3rd, for a Pond and Land Management Field Day, sponsored by Ag-Pro Companies and AG Georgia Farm Credit. This meeting will provide landowners a unique opportunity to meet one on one with University of Georgia specialists to discuss management strategies and plans for planted pines, hardwoods, and ponds. The field day will be held at Abbott’s Shooting Preserve located at 300 Gornto Cemetary Rd. (GPS address) Barney, GA 31625 and begins at 9:00 am Saturday. Participants will have the opportunity to move through field stations to learn about pond weed ID and control, pond fertility practices, prescribed burns, thinning of pines, planting seedlings, hardwood and privet control, and much more. Dr. Gary Burtle, UGA Extension Aquatic Scientist and Dr. David Moorhead, UGA Professor – Silviculture will be providing educational programs related to pond and pine management and available to answer participant’s questions. Also, Mr. Mark McClure, Forest Health Specialist with Georgia Forestry Commission, will be available to discuss invasive species of forests. The field day will conclude at Noon with catered lunch provided by Carter’s Catering and sponsored by Ag-Pro Companies and AG Georgia Farm Credit.
