This blog post is for entertainment only. It doesn’t really have anything to do with ag. However, I’ve found out over the years in doing radio, news articles and blogs that I get more response and comments when I tell a story or make a joke. I guess people like entertainment more than education.
That’s good to know!
Someone said to me recently, “You look tired”. “Thank you so much”, I quickly replied. Well, other than work, what else has been keeping me busy? My wife has been having a lot of back pain and finally had back surgery to remove part of a disc. She’s still recovering and can’t lift anything heavier than a shoe. I thank God that the surgery went well and thank everyone for the prayers. All 13 staples have been removed and she should be back to normal in a few weeks. She’d kill me if she knew I was posting this picture:
Recovering after surgery. Our dog is staying by her side.
Fabrication and construction work:
Building a cage for a tractor. Yes, I weld also
After two years of living in my house I discovered a water leak in a room that once was a garage and framed up before I bought it. So, I’ve been a carpenter too.
I had a good photographer when she wasn’t on pain medicine.
Water leaked under the bottom of the wall where it puddled outside. This is what happens when a room is built at or below grade level and nothing controls the water. The owners before me ran OSB to the cement and then bricked over it. Brilliant idea!Behind the brick was rotted wood. If you were not aware of what water can do to a house, now you know.
Easy solution to fix bay windows: Remove them! We replaced all the rotted OSB with pressure treated plywood. Also replaced the 2×4 plate with a 4×4 ground contact board. It won’t rot again! The tropical storm gave us rain to see if our sump pump idea would work. A sump pump, bucket and proper drainage keeps the water from backing up. This was only temporary, but it worked.A more improved version for drainage. It’s amazing what you can do with an empty glyphosate barrel. It caught all the water from the gutters and no water went in the room. I’ll cement around it later and bury the PVC. We still have a lot more work to do. This is a lot cheaper than raising the floor.
Now, need to finish installing gutters, frame up and install windows, put on siding, hang drywall, install flooring, outside siding, cut concrete in driveway and bury PVC pipe, add drain tile…….it may be a long summer!
I did have time to do a little landscaping. Recognize those plants?
