Field work and planting have been occurring for the last month. The heavy rains (from 5-8 inches) across the county a couple of weekends ago disrupted the plans of many growers. Much of the corn was already planted and growing well, and many other fields were prepared and bedded for planting the next week; but after the rain, washes had to be fixed and fields re-bedded. Some growers are still working to get fields ready, and some have gotten started back planting. In my observations from around the county, there are some peanuts cracking and cotton shining in the fields. We have watermelons, sweet corn, snap beans, cantaloupe, squash, kale, tomatoes, and peppers growing strong right now. I am looking forward to seeing you as we are out and about in the county.
We are planning to continue with plot work this growing season in cotton and peanuts, possibly other crops. We will be glad to help you if we can, and look forward to hearing from you.
In closing, we would like to welcome Mrs. Abby Rigsby to the Worth County Extension Office. Abby is our new Administrative Assistant at the Extension Office. We are excited to have her on board and helping with our 4-H and Agriculture programming in the county!
