Today December 5, 2024 is World Soil Day. A day that the USDA NRCS describes as:
“World Soil Day is a unique global platform designed to celebrate soil and empower governments, organizations, communities, and citizens around the world to improve soil health. This year’s theme, “Caring for soils: measure, monitor, manage,” underscores the importance of accurate soil data and information in understanding soil characteristics and supporting informed decision making on sustainable soil management for food security.”
As a water resources person, I look at teh soil and water interaction and the benefits of water saving practices such as conservation tillage as a way to improve soil health so we can increase water holding capacity, increase infiltration, and filter pollutants.
