My livestock judging team placed 2nd at the Peach State Contest, it rained this week and Sara cooked jambalaya for supper the other night. You can say it has been a good week but the Braves were whooped, Falcons are terrible and my Bulldawgs were humiliated so I guess it balances out. Kentucky comes to Athens this weekend so maybe just maybe we will decide to play on Saturday.
Peanuts: Judging by the number of peanuts we’ve been scraping over the past week and talking with the buying points, I think this year’s peanut crop is winding down. We have been seeing a good amount of insect damage this year. Dryland occurrences are usually Lesser Cornstalk Borer and we fought lessers hard all season. Irrigated peanut damage is starting to show up some and the culprit has been Southern Corn Rootworm. So put that away for next year because I’m sure they’ll be back.
Cotton: The much-needed rain has slowed down some cotton harvest. One good thing is that the rain will spruce the plants a little bit which will help with the uptake of defoliants, making them work better. Remember to adjust the rates of your 3way as weather changes. All of this cotton stubble that is starting to come back is just feed for nematodes and will aid in increasing populations.
Vegetables: Still battling whiteflies and disease.
