Time is running out for Tattnall County 4-H’ers interested in joining our Wildlife Judging and Poultry Judging teams—registration for both teams closes this Monday! These hands-on teams are a great way for youth to build confidence, sharpen decision-making skills, and learn more about Georgia’s natural resources and agriculture industries—all while having fun and competing with their peers.
Wildlife Judging
Thanks to our amazing volunteer coaches, Mrs. Casey Corbett and Coa Corbett, we are excited to offer 4-H Wildlife Judging again this year! This team is open to youth in 4th–12th grade and is a great fit for students who enjoy the outdoors and want to learn more about wildlife, conservation, and habitat management. Practices will be held on Wednesdays from 3:30–5:00 p.m. at the Tattnall County Extension Office, beginning in early March.
During practices, youth will learn to identify plants and animals, evaluate wildlife habitats, and make recommendations for improving environmental conditions through hands-on, real-world activities.
All team members will attend the Regional Wildlife Judging Competition on April 15th in Coffee County. This is a one-day event, and youth will be excused from school to participate. High school students who qualify at the regional level will advance to the State Wildlife Judging Contest on May 4th in Athens, GA.
The cost to participate is $50, due at registration. This non-refundable fee helps cover the cost of team t-shirts and contest registration.
Poultry Judging
We are also excited to bring back the ever-popular 4-H Poultry Judging Team, coaches by Mrs. Rhoda Johnson and Mrs. Rebekah Greene! This team is open to youth in 4th–12th grade and is a great opportunity to explore one of Georgia’s top agricultural industries.
Practices will be held on Monday and Thursday afternoons from 3:30–5:00 p.m. at the Tattnall County Extension Office. While two practice days are offered, students are only required to attend one day per week, making participation flexible for busy schedules. Students who wish to attend both days for additional practice are always free to do so!
The cost to join is $50, due at registration. This non-refundable fee helps cover team shirts, contest registration, and practice supplies.
The Area Poultry Judging Contest will be held on April 20th in Lyons, GA, and school excuses will be provided for the afternoon competition. High school students who qualify will advance to the State Poultry Judging Competition on May 1st in Oglethorpe County, GA.
Need-Based Support Available
We want every child to have the opportunity to participate. If your family is experiencing financial hardship, please reach out to the Extension Office. Thanks to generous local donors, we are often able to provide scholarships or sponsorships to help cover costs.
Don’t Miss the Deadline!
Registration closes Monday, March 30th! Spaces are limited, so don’t wait to secure your spot. We must have your contest registration form, medical release forms, and payment by this deadline in order to be able to register you for the competition. To register for either team, stop by the Tattnall County Extension Office, 114 N. Main Street in Reidsville, to complete required forms and payment.
