Illicium floridanum, also known as Florida Anise Tree, is a large evergreen shrub that can get 6 to 10 ft. tall. It does best in part to full shade and blooms red flowers in early spring. The foliage is bright and aromatic, making it pest resistant with an unusual fragrance. Although it is not drought tolerant, it is a rapid growing, low-maintenance shrub.
