
24 Bartow County Master Gardeners (MG’s) volunteered to man 6 sites throughout the county to distribute 2,000 seedlings. Bartow MG’s always make sure the program runs smoothly, and volunteered a total of 91.5 hours the day of Arbor Day. All sites started at 9 am with the exception of Doug’s starting at 8 am. The 2 tree varieties given out were Catalpa and Crape Myrtle.
This year’s Master Gardener volunteers were:

- Bartow County Courthouse- Sarah Craighead, Rick Shireman, Victoria Smith, Kathy Fielder, Kathy Murphy, & Jo Ann Dorsey
- Doug’s in Emerson- Dee Anne Wyse, Leann McNeil, Janet Martin, & Doug Heneghan
- Shakespeare Garden Downtown Cartersville (next to Ross’)- John Mabry, Alicia McMahan, Carol Ferguson, & Ken Reeves
- Kingston Dollar General Store- Kate Posey, Venia Etta McJunkin, & Marcia Humphreys
- White City Hall- Lisa Clark & Ted Porter

UGA Extension ANR agent (Paul Pugliese) spoke to the First Presbyterian Preschool 3 & 4 year old classes on February 26, 2026. 110 crape myrtle trees were bagged for the students and staff. Paul Pugliese spoke to Kindergarten classes at Euharlee Elementary school. 90 crape myrtle trees were bagged for the students. These presentations included the importance of trees, how to plant a tree, and the benefits of trees for wildlife and pollinators at the two schools. KBB staff (Gracie Jordan & Katie Martin) and Bartow MG’s (Dee Anne Wyse, Sarah Craighead, Rick Shireman, Carol Ferguson, Ted Porter, Don Hassebrock, & Barbara Whitaker) made the individual bags for schools. It took 14 volunteer hours to complete making the bags.
