A website from UGA Cooperative Extension

Are you interested in native plants, biodiversity, pollinators, composting, and other green landscape practices? Then the Georgia Green Landscape Stewards certification program is for you! Our Master Gardeners are teaching courses from the Georgia Green Landscape Stewards program at libraries across Fulton County this summer. Read on to find out where and when.

What is Georgia Green Landscape Stewards?

The Georgia Green Landscape Stewards program is a free course that teaches Georgians how to utilize more sustainable landscaping practices at their homes or businesses.

These engaging lessons help property owners protect natural resources like soil and water, as well as increase animal and plant diversity by providing wildlife and pollinator habitat. Learn about native plant options for your yard, reducing waste, decreasing pesticide use and more. A weather resistant yard sign is available once you become certified to show off your green landscape!

How do I become certified?

The GGLS certification program includes 10 classes on the following topics:

  • Composting at Home
  • Invasive Plants in the Landscape
  • Mulching in the Landscape
  • Encouraging Biodiversity at Home
  • Protecting Water Quality
  • Stormwater Management
  • Water Conservation
  • Welcoming Wildlife
  • Welcoming Pollinators to Your Landscape
  • Native Plants and Low Maintenance Landscapes

You can watch these lessons online at your own pace or attend in-person classes offered by our Master Gardeners. Learn more at the GGLS website.

Each lesson corresponds to actions you can take to make your landscape more sustainable. The more sustainable actions you implement, the more points you rack up! Log your points on the GGLS scorecard. Once you earn 70 points, you gain “Certified Georgia Landscape” status, and you can purchase a beautiful sign for your yard. (Yes, action items already practiced in your landscape can be counted, too!)
