
Dr. Alejandro Ojeda-Rojas recently joined the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine as an Assistant Professor and Beef Cattle Veterinarian. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Tolima (Colombia) and later completed advanced postgraduate training in cattle theriogenology at the University of Córdoba (Argentina). He earned two Master of Science degrees, one from the University of São Paulo (Brazil) and another from the University of Florida, and completed a Ph.D. in Animal Sciences with an emphasis on livestock production economics, also at the University of São Paulo. Dr. Ojeda additionally completed a Residency in Food Animal Reproduction and Medicine at the University of Florida, where he gained extensive hands-on experience in dairy and beef herd health, clinical reproduction, and advanced reproductive technologies.
Across his career in Latin America and the United States, Dr. Ojeda has built a diverse background in reproductive physiology, herd health management, and practical, data-informed decision-making at the farm level. He has authored several economic analyses relevant to both beef and dairy industries, including studies evaluating the profitability of sexed semen and the economic impact of purulent vaginal discharge in dairy herds.
Dr. Ojeda also enjoys providing Spanish-language training for dairy and beef farm employees on topics such as dystocia management, calf health, artificial insemination, hoof trimming and down cow management, helping strengthen communication and on-farm skills in multilingual operations.
He looks forward to working with dairy producers across Georgia and supporting the health, productivity, and long-term sustainability of their herds.
