Dr. Roberts provided agents with new information on the cotton jassid. The slide below shows where this pest has been found as of August 18th.

Dr. Roberts has updated the threshold based on field observations.

What do I spray? The following 3 slides are initial counts (3-4 DAT) of three small plot on-farm trials from Appling, Brooks and Colquitt Counties. Jassid populations can be variable in fields which makes research a challenge.

Below is work done by Dr. Jeremy Greene, Clemson Extension.

What does all this mean? Bidrin has been consistent but in Colquitt County our insect situation can get complicated in a hurry with whitefly. If you do not want to use Bidrin, then Dr. Roberts has some suggestions below.
Centric percent control was 68 percent in the three trials (have received some positive comments from field applications). Transform looks similar to Centric in two trials which included each. Will need to tank mix with pyrethroid to control stink bugs.
Assail and Argyle (premix of bifenthrin and Assail) is an option when whiteflies are present.

Have a safe week and if you have questions please call the office,
