If you have heard the term “atmospheric river” you may think of them as plumes of very humid air that blow into the US West Coast, bringing flooding rain to locations in that part of the country. But the Southeast also has atmospheric river events, including the one that occurred this past weekend with the movement of a cut-off low through the region, dragging humid air from the Gulf into the region. While some areas did not see as much rain as forecast, other areas got up to 8 inches in a few locations due to the amount of water vapor being transported into the area. You can read the article at the New York Times at https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/03/weather/atmospheric-rivers-midwest-california.html.
