The latest Drought Monitor, released this week Thursday, shows that while most of the Southeast remains free of dry conditions, the moderate (D1) drought in Virginia expanded quite a bit and abnormally dry conditions (D0) expanded in western North Carolina. Those areas have been largely bypassed by all the rain we have had in recent weeks. Depending on the path of Fred, they could see some rain next week, although it might be after the cut-off for next week’s Drought Monitor on Tuesday.
