The latest 7-day QPF map shows that the heaviest rain in the next week is going to shift back from the northern Gulf Coast to areas farther north and west, where the rain has been falling more frequently this spring. Last week’s heaviest rain fell in southern Alabama and Georgia and northern Florida, but this coming week the area with the most rain will be northern Alabama and Georgia as well as NW South Carolina, most of North Carolina, and Virginia. The longer range outlook does indicate a higher likelihood of rain over the next few weeks, which farmers will surely appreciate, but amounts do not look like they will be high enough to make a serious dent in the drought.
