Today Tropical Depression Fred’s predicted path was shifted westward and slowed down to bring more rain to Alabama and northern Georgia and less to the East Coast (unless it changes again). It is likely to regain tropical storm strength over the Gulf, although it should rapidly weaken again once it makes landfall on Monday. All that moisture will still be there however, and will contribute to some high precipitation amounts along and to the right of the path. Most of Georgia is thus likely to see some bouts of heavy rain, gusty winds, and the possibility of a tornado as the storm moves through Monday and Tuesday, although some could come on Sunday, especially in southern Georgia in spiral bands outside of the main storm. Meanwhile, the next wave off of Africa has developed enough of a circulation to be identified as Tropical Depression 7, which is likely to become TS Grace at some point. The forecast cone for TD7 is also headed for the southern tip of Florida on a similar path, although it has bounced around a bit over time. This one could be a little more powerful than Fred if it bypasses the mountainous islands and stays over water.
