Time: Climate Change is Devastating the Lush Gardens of Versailles

The heat and droughts that have occurred in Europe in the past few years has put stress on the forests of Europe. One of the most beautiful and managed forests is at the gardens at Versailles, the French palace just outside Paris. The foresters who take care of these trees are slowly changing the make-up of the forest away from the traditional varieties of trees to newer species that are more able to survive against the high temperatures and dry conditions that have affected the region recently. Visitors who go there are not necessarily aware of these changes, but the scientists who work there are very aware of the changes due to warming temperatures and how that will affect the forests in the future. You can read more about how the changing climate is affecting the gardens and what the tree-keepers are doing to maintain the forest as temperatures and precipitation patterns change in Time here.
