The latest Drought Monitor, released earlier this week, shows that drought expanded and got worse in most of the region this past week with just a few minor improvements in NW Virginia and SE Georgia. The area of exceptional (D4) drought more than doubled in SW Georgia and NW Florida as no rain fell this week. In Puerto Rico, abnormally dry (D0) conditions expanded but no drought has been identified yet. Some rain in the next week should keep conditions from getting worse but not much improvement is expected either.
