Here’s a map I found on Twitter recently showing the record 3-day snowfall event for each part of the country, updated to include the storm from last weekend. It could be worse!
I also read an article today in USA Today which discussed the increase in blizzards over time across the US. Research by geographer Jill Coleman at Ball State University indicates that the number of blizzards in the US has doubled in the last twenty years. However, it is not clear from the research whether this is a long-term cycle perhaps related to sunspots, an artifact of how blizzards are identified, or some long-term trend.
Only six states have never recorded a blizzard — Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina and Tennessee, Coleman said.
