It’s go time! Many of our growers are busy planting to finish getting the cotton and peanut crops in the ground. With all of the recent rains, field activities have been delayed. Below is a map from NOAA, which shows the last 30 days of rainfall for Worth County. We have had from 5 to 10+ inches of rainfall this month, depending on the location in the county.

We have been checking cotton and peanut stands, visiting with growers about herbicide options, looking at replant situations and herbicide injury, checking for diseases in corn, and working with growers and specialists on plots in the county. As of the writing of this article, there has been NO Southern Corn Rust (SCR) in the state of Georgia. Worth County Extension will keep you updated when the situation changes. For the up-to-date reporting of SCR, visit the following website: https://corn.ipmpipe.org/southerncornrust/

There are now more paraquat training opportunities for growers and applicators. The training is required every 3 years. Many growers have taken advantage of the free training webinars and Worth County Extension has offered group viewings of the trainings during March, April, and May. Following are the dates and times for trainings in June 2024. If someone, or a group, needs training at the Extension office, please contact us so that we can schedule one of the available dates.
