Worth County Extension has recently hosted two producer meetings. The Worth County Extension Peanut Production meeting was held on January 23, 2024. Dr. Scott Monfort, Dr. Mark Abney, and Dr. Glen Harris gave the latest update on peanut varieties and practices, insects and diseases, and peanut fertility needs. There was also an update from the Georgia Peanut Commission from Mr. David West.

On February 6, 2024, the Worth County Extension Row Crop Weed Management/Farm Stress meeting was held. Dr. Eric Prostko and Dr. Stanley Culpepper, UGA Weed Scientists, shared weed control options and programs in peanuts, corn, soybeans, and cotton. Dr. Taylor Randell Singleton, UGA Extension Sustainability Specialist, also gave growers an update on the Endangered Species Act and her role in Extension. In this meeting, Mrs. Jennifer Dunn (Deputy Assistant Commissioner at the GA Department of Behavioral Health and Development Disabilities), addressed the topic of farm stress with group discussion and interaction. Many attendees took the opportunity for a free blood pressure health check from our program partner Phoebe Worth – we are thankful for Phoebe Worth’s participation and service to our farming community.

Thanks to our Ag Program Sponsors that support Worth County Extension programming for these production meetings and other Agriculture programming throughout the year.
