Peanuts: So far peanuts planted mid-April to May are tracking on time. We have been forecasted a good bit of rain over the next several days. Those who are at least 2+ weeks out may want to consider a fungicide application to help stave off white mold, peanut rust, and leaf-spot. On dryland fields, we need to be checking for underground white mold. I saw plants this week that were pretty and green on top but peanuts were rotting with whitemold underneath.

Cotton: Most cotton fields should now be at the beginning of the water decline stage. I usually recommend starting terminating water with an average of 10% open bolls across a field. If you are just beginning to hit the decline stage and are having boll rot problems I would be extremely careful watering, you don’t want to exacerbate the problem. Don’t give up on whiteflies, too much honeydew can affect the lint.

La Nina: Extension Entomologist Pam Knox said the entomologist are tracking a possible La Nina. La Nina could move into over the next few months. How does this effect me? La Nina usually means drier, warmer winters. Just what we need, more whitefly weather.
