Saddle Up for the State 4-H Horse Show – Deadlines approaching soon!

Each year, Georgia 4-H hosts a statewide Horse Show that features everything from halter classes to dressage classes to timed contest events. In order to register for this show later in the summer, youth are REQUIRED to complete an Intent to Show form to provide information on themselves and the horse(s) they are interested in showing.

All youth interested in competing in the State 4-H Horse Show MUST submit their Intent to Show forms to their local county Extension office to be uploaded prior to the March 15th state deadline. Your local county office may have an earlier deadline to allow them time to review and upload your documents prior to the deadline. There is no cost to submit the Intent to Show form. NO LATE FORMS ARE ACCEPTED. The Intent to Show form can be downloaded from here. A few things to remember about your Intent to Show forms:

  • A horse may be carried as a project animal by more than one member of the family and shown by more than one member of the family provided they are in two different age groups. If a horse is going to be shown by more than one family member, each horse/rider combination must submit separate forms.
  • One Intent to Show form per horse/rider combination must be submitted!
  • Proof of ownership or lease agreement must be attached and submitted with your Intent to Show form. Horse must be leased or owned prior to March 1, 2021.
  • If leased, the lease must be a minimum of five (5) months (March 1-August 15). If the leaser does not follow the five-month lease agreement, the leaser will be ineligible to participate in future Georgia State 4-H Horse Shows.
  • Proof of ownership can be registration papers, Bill of Sale or a notarized letter from a vet or other knowledgeable person. Coggins papers WILL NOT be accepted.
  • If last name of owner or leaser differs from the 4-H’er, please explain the relationship. (Ex. Guardian, step-parent, grandparent)
  • A 4-H’er may submit as many forms as they have eligible horses. Use a separate form for each horse. Absolutely NO additions after March 15, 2021 and Absolutely NO horses will show in the State Show without an Intent to Show form, and they must be registered online by the agent by 5:00 pm on March 15, 2021. Please enter all possible horses, in case of injury or other problems.
  • Photo and documentation will be held on file at the 4-H’er’s County Office.

Once the Intent to Show form has been entered, your child and horse are eligible to compete in the State 4-H Horse Show. They will be contacted in late April\early May with details on selecting classes and paying registration fees for the show. Additional detail about the State Horse Show (i.e. class availability, tentative schedule, etc.) can be found on the Georgia 4-H Website Equine page.
