About Master Naturalist

The Georgia Master Naturalist Program is a hands-on environmental education course that explores habitats and ecosystems in Georgia and human impacts on these environments.

The UGA Georgia Master Naturalist program is a 48-hour continuing education program for adults through the UGA Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources. This program is centered on expanding your knowledge of plants, wildlife, ecosystems, and our interaction with them. 

This program will include in-depth lectures, tours, hikes, and hands-on learning experiences with experts on topics including ecology, horticulture, wildlife, agriculture, limnology, pollinators, water resources, history, and more.  

Important Dates

Registration Deadline: August 22nd at 5:00pm

Program introduction at the Cobb County Extension office: August 29th at 10:00am

Class dates:
September Fridays:  5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th
October Thursdays: 2rd, 9th, 16th, and 23-24th (overnight)
– October 30th is scheduled only as a inclement weather make-up day

Time: The educational days start on location at 9:00 am and end at roughly 4:00 pm. This time does not include drive time to and from location or drive time to and from optional transportation. 

Meals: You should pack a lunch for each program day.  On the overnight trip, dinner the night of and breakfast the  morning following will be provided. Plan to purchase lunch on the second day of the overnight trip. Snacks and drinks will be provided at each class.

Transportation

Limited transportation is offered from the Cobb, Douglas, and Paulding Extension offices, with departure times that will vary. For those taking the provided transportation, we will do our best to accommodate everyone, however you may be assigned to depart from an office that isn’t your first choice. 

Fee

Fee: $325

Included with your fee upon completion of the program will be an embroidered Georgia Master Naturalist polo shirt, certificate of completion, and name badge. The fee also covers weekly field trips, tours, speakers, class materials, overnight lodgings and dinner and breakfast during the overnight. (Plan to bring money for lunch for Oct. 25th)
