Often when we think of our favorite vegetables, summer produce like squash, tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers may come to mind. However, for those that love broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, turnips, radish, salad greens, and onions, this is your season! If you are looking to start these vegetables from seed, it is too late for some crops, but you might be able to seed in the early spring. Take a look at the Vegetable Planting Chart below to see optimal times to plant in the spring and fall.  If seeds aren’t your thing, or you still want to give a fall garden a try, you can purchase transplants at your local retailers.

Home Gardening

Select a site that has good drainage, good access to water, and has plenty of sunlight (atleast 6 hours). You might also consider protecting your new plantings with fencing to discourage deer, rabbits, and squirrels from destroying your plants. Make sure to keep young seedlings watered to ensure establishment. As we continue to have warm days, be on the lookout for pests for these crops and manage them quickly before they become a problem.
