The latest Drought Monitor released this morning shows only minor increases in abnormally dry conditions in Virginia and North Carolina, while the rest of the Southeast remains drought-free. Thanks to the heavy rains of Irma last weekend, all areas of abnormally dry conditions have been removed from Georgia and South Carolina in this week’s Drought Monitor map. Two small areas remain in North Carolina and Virginia.

This morning’s Drought Monitor shows that while there is no drought in the Southeast this week, abnormally dry conditions expanded slightly in north and central Georgia but decreased in south Georgia as well as Virginia and North Carolina. The region of abnormally dry conditions in South Carolina did not change from last week.

While the Southeast is free from drought this year (as opposed to last summer), exceptional drought conditions have taken residence in the Upper Plains and especially in Montana this summer.
