Today NOAA released its climate summary for the US for the month of October. It shows that for the continental US as a whole, October 2014 was the fourth warmest on record. The latest Drought Monitor shows that moderate (D1) drought has expanded in the Southeast from last week. Two areas have been newly designated in D1, including east central Georgia and central and western Alabama. The percentage of the Southeast in D1 has expanded from 6.6 to 9.2 percent of the area.
