The lack of rainfall last week led to the increase of the number of acreage covered by drought and abnormally dry conditions in this past week’s drought map. Another dry week is expected over the next seven days, and dry conditions are likely to expand on the next map released on Thursday. The 7-day map below shows an area of rain in eastern Virginia and North Carolina over the next few days, followed by some rain in the Florida Peninsula. Late in the week, some light and scattered showers may return to other parts of the area. While fall is usually the driest time of the year and that is valued by some farmers, others need more rain to finish off the crop and are worried about how dry it has become. Week 2 shows a slightly better chance of rain, but weeks 3-4 show that a return to drier than normal conditions could occur, so we will need to keep watching.
