In a big change from the past few weeks, rain is expected across most of the region over the next two weeks, bringing some relief to farms and farmers who desperately need it. This week, we expect to see a good bit of rain this weekend, with lighter rain early next week and then more rain late in the week. The amounts we get will critically depend on the track of Tropical Storm Beryl, which is in the Gulf now and is expect to make landfall on the Texas coast on Monday before curving north and then northeast.
While the storm is not expected to pass over the Southeast and will likely become a tropical depression or remnant mass of moisture later this week, the circulation around Beryl could push a lot of water vapor into our region, leading to multiple rounds of thunderstorms. Areas closer to the center of the circulation could see somewhat drier conditions due to sinking air around the storm. As in any convective rain event, the amounts of rain that fall are likely to be quite variable across the region, and some may get multiple inches in short bursts while others see very little. Over the week, we can hope that everyone will get something but not too much rain. I don’t see many 24-hours periods with no rain, so keep that in mind for your work schedule. The wetter pattern is expected to continue through July.
