The dry conditions that have grown across a lot of the Southeast in the past few weeks have put a lot of stress on many crops, but probably none more so than corn. As I have driven across Georgia in the past couple of weeks, I have seen a lot of dryland corn fields looking parched at a time when they are supposed to be silking and producing the kernels for this fall’s harvest. This article from Southeast Farm Press also shows the same issue in North Carolina, which has been even drier than Georgia. Will the rain we get in the next week be timely enough to save the crop, or is yield loss already too great? We will know soon.
