Do you have a lawn at your home? If so, how do you maintain it? Many things that you use to take care of your lawn contribute to climate change by emission of carbon dioxide or reduction of uptake of CO2 by removing trees in favor of grass. Fertilizer can also contribute because manufacturing fertilizer is very energy-intensive and so contributes to the emission of greenhouse gases. I use a human-powered old-fashioned reel mower to mow my yard (fortunately, it’s a small one) and battery-powered blower and string trimmer to cut the emission of gas-powered equipment, which often uses engines that are terrible polluters as well as emitters of greenhouse gases. Here is an article from Yahoo News that discusses how lawn care contributes to climate change and some changes that can be made to reduce their impacts.
