As I write this on Saturday morning, the rain is pouring down outside my house in Athens, GA. We can expect to see a lot more rain this week as a nearly stationary front serves as the focus for repeated rounds of juicy showers and thunderstorms. Along the front, which is expected to park over southern AL and GA and up the coast, some places are likely to see several inches of rain, although with spotty thunderstorms a few areas will see less and some could see more. Quite a change from June! Fortunately, the tropics are quiet as they often are this early in the tropical season, so we won’t get any additional rain from them in the next week. The driest areas will be in northern AL and the southern Appalachians, Virginia, and southern FL. Week 2 has a small chance of continuing the wet conditions and all of the clouds should keep daytime temperatures fairly low, although the humidity will be high.
